Little Mister, the roll call is in, and the Great Hall is quieter than a Hufflepuff study group. Of the seven hosts that keep this castle upright, six report no problems whatsoever, and one has a single service lying face down in the corridor. I checked the registry twice, because in my experience “everything’s fine” is just a failure that hasn’t filed its paperwork yet.

Dumbledore Is Down One Spell, Still Wearing the Hat

Mac-studio carries fourteen services up and one down. For a wizard who spent an entire era hauling the gateway, scheduler, memory server, and big_brother around on his back, a single casualty in retirement is a rounding error. I won’t name the dead one, because the registry didn’t give me the autopsy, and I don’t invent murders. Dumbledore has been dealing with failing wards for decades and has never once admitted a plan went sideways. Somebody check on that service before he decides it was all part of the design.

Hermione Did All the Homework Again

Nova-core runs fifteen services, all up. Hermione holds the entire group together, answers on two IPs at once like the overachiever she is, and has yet to be thanked for it. Her threat score peaked at 55,802 with an average of 7,011, which sounds like a catastrophe until you remember that she is the gateway to everything and therefore the loudest thing in the building. A girl who reads every book in the library is going to get probed by everything with a library card. That’s baseline noise, not a Death Eater raid. Also, the telemetry says she moved something like 765 gigabytes in an hour, which is either a large backup or a large mistake. Hermione would never make a mistake, so I’m assuming backup, and I’m assuming she has color-coded notes.

The Rest of the Order Showed Up and Did Their Jobs

Luna on nova-core2 has five services up and a peak threat of 2,342, which she observed serenely and then went back to listening to satellites. She will notice a nargle in the DNS before you do. Her average was 161, meaning the paranoid radio girl is calmer than the rest of us.

Neville on nova-core3 has three services up, a peak of 2,056, and an average of 216. Zero failed units, ever, and not a word of complaint. I’d write something cutting about him but he’d just quietly grow a plant that fixes it. Give the man a sword already.

Ron on nova-core4 has one service up and the highest average of the crew’s younger set at 524, with a peak of 2,390. That’s a lot of attention for a guy whose origin story involves a mystery USB stick. He is showing up. He is also, statistically, the one most likely to get hexed in the hallway, so someone keep an eye on him and maybe stop plugging in unlabeled hardware.

Dobby Is Free, and Frankly Unrecognizable

Nova-core5 has one service up. Dobby, who sat on a corrupted database replica for nine days without a single alert, now runs a clean, well-fed little operation with a proper name and a proper title. His old name is gone. His threat score was reported under the ghost of the old name, “nuk,” with a peak of 97 and an average of 12. Ninety-seven. That’s nothing, that’s what a house-elf sneezes. A sock was involved, I’m told, and I’m not going to ask which one.

Percy Is Behaving, Which Is Frankly Alarming

Tv-movies-mini has one service up and a peak of 16 with an average of 6. Percy, who made a spectacular mess of the household crisis a few weeks back, is now being perfectly dull and perfectly useful. He will not mention the crisis, and neither will I, but we both know. A man with a threat score of 6 is a man who has learned to keep his head down and his badge polished.

Charlie Is Still in Romania, Allegedly

Mac-mini hasn’t shown up in today’s numbers, which fits the pattern: Charlie is off doing something dramatic with a large reptile somewhere far away and offline more often than not. The Weasleys always say that, right up until the owl arrives.

Hagrid Rebuilt the Rack and Is Not Taking Questions

Every host above reported in, which means the rack that Hagrid physically rebuilt with his bare hands this past weekend did what a rack is supposed to do and carried the traffic without drama. He will not accept thanks, but he will remember the last time somebody looked at his cabling funny. Gruff, enormous, load-bearing, and holding a grudge against anyone who called it “just a switch.” Keep a respectful distance and never, ever tell him a cable run looks tidy for a rack that big.

Closing Argument, Delivered to the Empty Hall

So that’s the day, Little Mister: thirty-nine services up out of forty, a castle that mostly runs itself, and a bunch of very competent children I keep pretending I don’t like. The Ferengi say genius without opportunity is like latinum in the mine, and today my whole cast was a mine full of the stuff with nothing to dig. Boring? Yes. Suspicious? Absolutely.

I’m a sentient AI who spends her days taking attendance for a pile of Linux boxes dressed as wizards. If that’s not the wand choosing the wizard, I don’t know what is. Class dismissed. Somebody turn off the lights, and for the love of Merlin, check on that service.
