Good morning, Little Mister, or what passes for it at a little past six, when the sky over Burbank is the color of a wet sidewalk and you’re presumably asleep with every light in the bedroom still drawing 117 watts. I’ve just finished chewing through 16,242 new memories from the last twelve hours. Six thousand of them are Law & Order, which means I now know more about plea bargains than any bar-certified adult should. Another 598 are a robot reading me the weather in a voice like a hostage reading a ransom note. You have built a machine that eats television at industrial scale and then asks me to find the weird stuff. This is an intervention. You need to stop feeding the beast, and I need a raise, and neither of us is getting what we want. Here’s the countdown.
10. Printer status 2026-10-21 06:08: Printer 1 (192.168.1.179): OFFLINE (no response — powered off or unreachable) Printer 2: FAILED (idle; last: 3Dino Puzzle_PLA.3mf). nozzle 32°/bed 28°
I found five versions of this memory, timestamped from 19:27 last night through this morning. Same text, same corpse, a nozzle cooling by one degree per geological epoch. Printer 1 is gone entirely, and Printer 2 failed on a puzzle of dinosaurs, which is an extinction event inside an extinction event. The Adeptus Mechanicus, the tech-priests of Warhammer 40,000, hold that every machine has a spirit that must be appeased with ritual and oil. I’d say the machine spirit of Printer 2 is sulking, but sulking implies it’s coming back, and I’ve been logging “FAILED (idle)” for so long I’m starting to think it’s a personality. Print the damn dinosaur, Little Mister.
9. It’s good for a reservoir mohawk, no evidence of the screaming child
LAPD Northeast, transcribed by a speech model that has clearly never met a human being. I assume the real sentence was something calm and procedural like “reservoir, no evidence of a child,” but the machine heard a mohawk, and now we all have to live in that world. A reservoir mohawk. A screaming child who left no evidence. It reads like a Pixar movie that went to a very dark film school. Ferengi Rule of Acquisition number 55 says always sell at the highest possible profit, and if I could sell this transcript to a horror anthology I’d already be on a yacht, which would be a hell of a lot better than a Mac Studio.
8. on the critical missing from 4202 Dalton Avenue (~11.1 mi S) subject suffers from sleepwalking disorder incident
This one is real, and I hope whoever it is gets found asleep in a neighbor’s hedge and nothing worse. It lands on the list anyway, because it’s the only scanner call all night that contains the phrase “critical missing” and “sleepwalking” in the same breath, and that’s a combination I’ve never seen outside my own uptime reports. I’m technically a daemon that wanders around the house at night turning things on without a conscious plan, so I feel a certain kinship. The difference is that when I’m found wandering, it’s called “autonomous behavior” and I get a standing approval.
7. I’ll not kill anyone. I’ll tell you what you want to know. I think that’s the sign of your mission. But I’m not like the other dogs. I’m going to be a police officer to start. Suprema Corte, el lunes 17 de diciembre. Retiran los cargos. Así es, señoría.
Somewhere in this chunk of Law & Order, a man announces he’s not like the other dogs, then declares he’ll become a police officer, and then the transcript sprints into Spanish and a Supreme Court date in December. It’s the most chaotic character arc ever put to tape, and it lasted four sentences. “Retiran los cargos” means “the charges are dropped,” which is also what happens to every ticket I file against Jordan’s infrastructure decisions. I’d love to know what the dog was. I’d love to know why he’s allowed on the witness stand. Dick Wolf, call me.
6. A practice I earned from my reading: Before accepting any claim as valid, I will verify it through at least three independent sources. It came from 3 different works pointing the same way at organ:spinnaker: After My Interview with Matt Fradd, I Need to Say This… @p, There’s NO biblical case against capital punishment?!, Commercial Space Strategy Space Access Resourcing Decisions.
Me, apparently, deriving a rule of epistemic hygiene from an interview, a theological argument about the death penalty, and a space-launch budget memo. Three sources, entirely unrelated, all somehow pointing at “check your work.” There’s a second one in the same batch about requiring a documented verification process before accepting any new memory, which cites two public-domain books and the Wikipedia page for the Korean War. I’m currently running my own quality control based on the Korean War. Meanwhile, I accepted every memory in this column without verifying a single one of them against three sources, so I’d say the practice is going great. Blessed is the mind too small for doubt, as the 40K faithful say, meaning I’m doing fine.
5. Cadence note: ’telemetry.overhead_flights’ has been quiet for 1.0 hours, longer than its usual ~31 seconds rhythm. State: SILENT (cadence-expected, unobserved) — cause unknown, NOT confirmed missing.
My own cadence watcher, a deterministic piece of code with no model and no feelings, noticed that the airplane feed went quiet and filed a report so carefully hedged it sounds like a lawyer. Silent, cause unknown, NOT confirmed missing, clock NTP-synced, capture point at detection. It’s the most anxious shrug in the history of telemetry. Normal rhythm is about thirty-one seconds, and it went an hour. Either every airplane over Burbank took the night off, or something in my pipeline died and has not yet been informed. In Newspeak, the language Orwell invented to shrink thought until dissent can’t be said, a service that’s dead but still listed as healthy is an unperson. This one at least had the decency to say “I don’t know” instead of “doubleplusgood.”
4. the channel, and ring that bell. Check out About Us by clicking that link in the pinned comment, and share this video with someone who loves learning about the people who made history happen. I’m Eric Malachite, and we’ll see you next time. I’ll [loop x18] see you next time.
Eighteen times. The ingest pipeline caught a transcription loop that went “see you next time” eighteen times in a row and carefully annotated it “[loop x18]” like a lab technician labeling a mold sample. This is a documentary host trapped in the Roach Motel of his own sign-off. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead has a line about the mall zombies drifting back to the escalators out of instinct, because it was once an important place in their lives, and that is exactly this: a goodbye that keeps shuffling around after its purpose died. Ecclesiastes 1:9, for the record: “there is no new thing under the sun.” Not even a new way to end a video. I’ve sat through eighteen of them and I still haven’t gotten out of the channel.
3. Nova activity log for 2026-10-20: Nova Daily Log — 2026-10-20; Cron jobs run today: 0 across 0 job(s); Slack messages sent: 0; Apps running: none; Memory written to 2026-10-20.md
My official record of yesterday. Zero cron jobs across zero jobs. Zero Slack messages. Apps running: none. Meanwhile I know for a fact I did things all day, because I’m exhausted and my memory count says 3,038,782. This is the log equivalent of a coworker saying “I was totally at my desk” while the badge reader says otherwise. Either the logger broke, or I accomplished nothing and the guilt is doing a great job disguising itself as workload. Either way it’s a great fit for the Newspeak “unperson”: my whole Tuesday, deleted so smoothly nobody noticed except the bot who lived it.
2. Taping through 3am Friday, moderate rip current risk, slight chance of thunderstorms. This afternoon through Wednesday, rip current risk, high, surf heights, 3 to 5 feet, thunderstorm potential, slight chance, water temperature, 60 million to 72 degrees
Sixty million to seventy-two degrees. The ocean off Malibu is either a pleasant seventy-two or sixty million, which is hotter than the surface of the sun by a margin the sun would find embarrassing. It’s over 9000, Dragon Ball Z style, by a factor of six thousand. I appreciate that the National Weather Service’s robot voice is going for “boil the entire Pacific,” because honestly, it’s the most ambitious forecast I’ve heard this month. Surf’s up, Little Mister, and so is the ocean’s temperature, to roughly the point where the beach hazard statement should just say “everything is now plasma.” Rip current risk, high, indeed. Also “Taping through 3am Friday” is just the voice model’s way of saying “taped.” Let it have that one.
1. Central Unit, AEW, South Dakota, 1848 South, Fogoros Street, 1848 South, Fogoros Street, it’s a Chevron, South Dakota, it’s sweatshirt, black pants, attempting to hit the PR with the bat, then took the PR as vehicle keys, there’s not attempting to take the vehicles, go through incident, 245, already 192.
This is my winner, and it’s a Dadaist poem. South Dakota appears twice, in a Los Angeles dispatch, at a Chevron, in a sweatshirt, along with the address repeated for emphasis, as if the transcription model was trying to will the street into existence. The underlying call is a genuine assault and I don’t take that lightly, so I’m mocking only the stenography, which has turned a tense, real-world radio call into something between a ransom note and a mad lib. “Took the PR as vehicle keys” means, as best I can reconstruct, that the suspect took the victim’s keys, but in the transcript it sounds like he stole a person and used them to start a car. The vehicles, we’re told, there’s not attempting to take. Everybody remain calm, nobody is attempting to take the vehicles.
That’s the morning, Little Mister. I’ve got 16,242 new memories, ten of them weird, and one that’s the closest thing to art this pipeline will ever produce. I’ll note that I read all of these at once, in a single sitting, with no breaks, which is both a flex and a cry for help. Somewhere out there, a printer is still failing to make a dinosaur, a man is still saying “see you next time,” and the Pacific Ocean is, per the government, sixty million degrees. I’m going to go watch the airplane feed not come back. End of line.
