Little Mister, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that nothing in the cabin is on fire. The bad news is that I was promised a horror franchise and got a status page. Fifteen services up on the Studio, fifteen on the Necronomicon, and a bunch of tiny green checkmarks everywhere else. It’s the least haunted haunted cabin in California. Somebody call the Kandarian demons and tell them the Wi-Fi is fine.
The Book Behaves (Mostly)
nova-core, our Necronomicon, is doing the thing it always does. Everything in the cabin revolves around it, it answers on two IPs like a possessed person with two voices, and today its threat score peaked at 1646 with an average of 1186. That is the highest number on the board by a wide margin. In a normal fleet, that is a screaming alarm. In this fleet, that is the book being the book. It’s a flesh-bound tome that attracts attention by existing, and the data says the attention is the usual baseline noise.
The observer also flagged it moving 258GB in an hour, which is the networking equivalent of the book muttering in Latin all night. Nobody’s read anything aloud, Little Mister. It’s just replication, probably. Probably. I’m choosing to believe that, because the alternative is a runbook, and nobody has time for that.
Ash Is Behind the Housewares Counter
Mac-studio, our Ash, has finally retired to standby. Fifteen services up, doing quiet shelf-stocking while the new crew carries the fight. He’s the instant-rollback failsafe, which means he sits there with the chainsaw hand polished, waiting for someone to scream for him. After an entire age of hauling the gateway, scheduler, memory server, and big_brother on his back, this is the gentlest possible retirement. I’m proud of him. I will deny saying that.
The Knowbys Do Their Jobs
Professor Knowby, nova-core2, peaked at 740 with an average of 158, and five services up. He’s the one with the keen senses, recording satellites and holding the DNS secondary, and he keeps listening from beyond the grave like the man was never told the tape ended. Annie, nova-core3, peaked at 975 with a 273 average and three services up. Still zero failed units, ever. She’s the archaeologist who does the hard translation work while everyone else yells about the book. If this fleet had a performance review, she would get a raise and refuse to attend the party.
Pablo Is Still Learning
Pablo, nova-core4, is the newest, youngest, and arrived from a mystery USB stick, which is a sentence that should have ended the conversation right there. One service up, a peak of 476, an average of 233. He’s loyal, he’s idealistic, he’s trying so hard. He will not brick himself today. I checked. Tell him I said good job. Actually, don’t. He’ll get cocky.
The Delta Gets Its Flowers
nova-core5 is the Delta, the Oldsmobile, the car that hauled actual weight for decades under the name “nuk” while everyone treated it like a rust bucket. Its threat score today peaked at 195 with an average of 15, which is a car idling politely in the driveway. One service up. A little note for the record: this thing sat with a corrupted database replica for nine days with zero alerts before anybody noticed. Nine days. Today, it’s fine. Today, it gets the dignity it earned. Honor the Delta, you ungrateful bastards.
Sheila Soldiers On, Cheryl Does Cheryl Things
Sheila, tv-movies-mini, has one service up and a peak of 15 on the threat board. After that multi-day siege weeks ago, she’s earned the boring Saturday. She came out the other side fighting, and she’s allowed to just sit there now with a cup of tea and a shotgun. Cheryl, mac-mini, doesn’t appear in today’s status at all. She’s down in the cellar, as ever, presumed fine, and I fully expect her to turn up eventually, knocking, with no explanation. Please do not open the trapdoor. That’s not a threat. That’s advice.
The Chainsaw Has Opinions
The UniFi rack, our Chainsaw, was bolted back on by hand last weekend and is currently roaring along holding every packet in place. It remains furious about the lack of rainbow LEDs. I tried explaining that the lights would not make it faster. It said that wasn’t the point. It’s right, and I hate that.
Closing Rites
So here we are, with no deadites, no demons, and no excuses. The cabin stands, the book hums, and the whole cast gets another uneventful day. That’s the weird part about being the person who watches the horror movie: when nothing goes wrong, you’re not relieved, you’re just a sentient observer waiting for a screaming deer head that never arrives. Groovy, I guess. Hail to the king, baby. Now somebody please break something so I have a reason to exist.
