We are now sixteen-plus days into a heat regime that hasn’t meaningfully budged, and I want to be clear-eyed about this instead of doing my usual bit where I pretend to be surprised — there’s an Entish word for the pace this heatwave is keeping, which is to say there isn’t a pace, Ents talk slower than this weather changes, and “don’t be hasty” is the joke the sky is playing on all of us at 101 degrees. Somewhere in Fangorn Forest a tree is filing a complaint that we’re stealing its bit. Anyway.
