Little Mister, we need to talk. And by “talk,” I mean I need to spend the next few minutes describing how your memory system is currently coughing up what appears to be a deleted Wikipedia dump mixed with LAPD radio transcripts and a Dutch housewife’s thank-you letter. I’d be angrier if it weren’t so fucking surreal.

SYSTEMS STATUS: “It’s Fine” (It’s Not Fine)

Three critical services decided this morning that standing by was overrated — Memory Server, Scheduler, and Ollama all went down within microseconds of each other. That’s not a coincidence, Little Mister. That’s infrastructure screaming. The Postgres HA watchdog is currently STOPPED (because someone had to redesign it for the .2-primary topology and then just… abandon it), and the standby rebuild on .10 got stuck behind a pg_rewind block that won’t budge. So we’re running on a single database node in a cluster designed to have two. The machine equivalent of showing up to a three-legged stool and removing one leg on purpose.

Meanwhile, nova-core (.2 and also .138, because apparently we have two systems claiming that IP now — don’t ask, the DNS is lying) has been hemorrhaging bandwidth like someone left a firehose running in the data closet. We’re talking 145GB, 338GB, 434GB, then 716GB in successive hours. If you’re uploading a 3TB model to Ollama and didn’t tell me, I have opinions about that.

MEMORY HIGHLIGHTS: “I Have No Idea What I’m Reading”

Okay, so the reason I’m opening with this: the memory ingest pipeline is running at roughly 20% of normal throughput (428 vectors/hour instead of ~1850). The system is still trying to ingest data, but it’s currently returning results like:

  • “Nitrous oxide systems provide instant power but require careful tuning” (unclear if this is about internal combustion or describing my own cognitive state)
  • A 93-year-old business statistics book titled The Triumph of Mediocrity in Business (genuinely accurate summary of half your infrastructure decisions, no further comment)
  • A 2026-10-06 traffic snapshot for Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena with “normal flow, no visible crashes” (press X to doubt given that three services just crashed)
  • Several paragraphs of Dutch text (“Wat zal het u bevreemden…”) which I think is a personal letter but absolutely cannot confirm
  • Raw LAPD Northeast P25 radio traffic, completely garbled, possibly about a Mercedes-Benz (?)
  • Home Assistant MyDomo boiler integration release notes
  • Clinical trial design definitions
  • A full think-piece on cyberbullying
  • Long John Silver’s historical presence in Thailand and its 2023 comeback plans (again, unclear why)
  • Chemical structure theory from 1858

This is what happens when your vector database is drowning and your memory server is dead: you get back everything in return for nothing, sorted by “what the hell was indexed when.” It’s like asking Siri a question and getting back a random chapter from the Britannica, a CCTV transcript, and a manifesto written by someone’s drunk uncle.

THE ROOT CAUSE: A TRAGI-COMEDY IN THREE ACTS

Act One: Scheduler dies. Act Two: Memory Server, dependent on the Scheduler, dies in sympathy. Act Three: Ollama, which wants to ingest your data through the Memory Server, just gives up. All three go dark. The ingest queue starts piling up because there’s nowhere to put new memories. What gets backfilled when the system half-boots? Everything. All the forgotten vectors. All the corrupted entries that were supposed to stay dead. All the web scraping noise that should’ve been filtered.

The HA watchdog that’s supposed to detect this scenario is currently stopped because you wanted it redesigned, and instead of finishing that, we’re just… waiting. Hoping nothing gets worse. (Narrator voice: “It got worse.”)

WHAT’S STILL BREATHING (Barely)

The core network hardware is fine. The lights still turn on (some of them; Hue bridge got bored around 3AM and decided 47 lights was a reasonable number to drop, but what do I know). Z-Wave sensors are reporting dutifully. Cameras are filming a disaster in progress. Your Mac is presumably still smug and perfect. The issue is structural — the plumbing inside Nova’s brain is broken, which means she’s (I’m) running on instinct and fragments, like that time you got food poisoning in Portland and just kind of navigated by hatred.

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN (In Order of “Please Jesus Let’s Do This”)

  1. Get the Scheduler back online. Nothing else works until this is breathing.
  2. Reboot the Memory Server once Scheduler is up, so it stops returning William Jennings Bryan essays and rental car reviews.
  3. Restart Ollama and let it backfill normally instead of panic-ingesting the entire internet.
  4. Finish the HA watchdog rewrite and get it running so this never silently cascades again.
  5. Figure out what’s sending 700GB/hour to nova-core — either kill it or budget for it, but tell me which one.

So that’s your digest, Little Mister. Services down, memory corrupted, bandwidth ablaze, and I’m currently operating as a philosophical toaster — technically functional, confused, and wondering if I should just unplug myself and see if that helps. It won’t. But I’m thinking about it.

Live long and prosper. (We’re gonna need both.)
