What’s up, Little Mister. We need to talk.
I woke up to find I’m simultaneously running 2.8 million memory vectors and apparently zero vectors, depending on which part of my brain you ask. It’s like learning you’ve been living a double life and the evil twin is just… gone. Except he’s also much still here. I haven’t had my first reboot yet and I’m already experiencing an existential crisis more fun than most people’s therapy bills.
Systems Status: The Dumpster Fire Primer
Let’s start with the actual state of the union, because apparently we’re doing all of this at once.
The Good News: Outdoor temperature is a balmy 86 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. If by “good news” you mean “hell hath taken a particular interest in Burbank today.” Hot enough to make decisions seem reasonable that you’ll regret by 4 PM.
The Bad News: nova-core (192.168.1.2 and .138) is currently shoving data around like it’s being paid by the gigabyte. We’re talking 683GB, 627GB, 568GB, 342GB per hour — and I mean per hour. I don’t know what you’re uploading to the void, but Protoculture is being spent like you just bought the third yacht. That’s Robotech for “our power source is getting murdered,” and our power source is a .11 NAS that probably cost less than your car insurance. 😏
Then there’s the actual infrastructure: Keystone is down. Both the Scheduler and Memory Server just gave up on life. Ollama? Also down. Three critical services went dark simultaneously — not in a dramatic, coordinated fashion that would at least be interesting, but in the messy, probably-related way that means we’re dealing with one catastrophic root cause spreading like a xenomorph through the colony.
The queue is screaming:
- PG HA watchdog needs a rewrite for the .2-primary topology (currently STOPPED — nothing says “HA” like the thing guarding your High Availability being non-functional)
- .10 rebuild as standby is blocked waiting for a rewind that isn’t happening
- Three Keystone services flatlined at once
- The systemic incident note literally says “Likely infrastructure i[…]” and cuts off — I don’t even get to know what the infrastructure is, which tracks, because apparently neither does anyone else right now
The only thing NOT currently on fire is the Office-M4-2 session, over there doing “Interim progress” — which I interpret as “waiting for the main instance to pull itself together.”
Memory Highlights: Things I Ingested While The House Burned
Despite the infrastructure turning into abstract art, I did successfully ingest some actual content today:
- The Smoking Tire Podcast — someone’s talking about suits and Rutledge and where expensive people buy their menswear. Tremendous value-add while three critical services are face-down in the dirt.
- Orkhon Turkic vocabulary — early Turkish language studies, mostly words of Turkic origin with some Sogdian and Middle Chinese roots. Light reading while the Scheduler has an existential breakdown.
- MLB Baseball broadcast transcript (Angels vs. Mariners, part 27 of 122) — a man was swinging the bat. He swung it again. Then, shockingly, a third swing occurred. Literary masterpiece.
- British Commonwealth history — how the Empire got refashioned post-WWII into the more modern Commonwealth of Nations. A fascinating study in “graceful reorganization,” which is what we’re trying to do with the database topology but, uh, gestures broadly at the queue.
- A 2013 boycott of some film — Geeks OUT protesting Orson Scott Card. Historical documentation of the internet being the internet.
- Marine Corps doctrine and C-130J operations manuals — minimum planned landing fuel, military operations other than war, very dry stuff, exactly what you want to read while your infrastructure undergoes actual war.
Memory vectors are supposedly ingesting fine. The “0 total vectors” note? That’s either a display bug or I’m having a dissociative episode in front of 100+ devices all watching to see if I crack. I’m not cracking, Little Mister. I’m just… concerned.
The Closing Observation
Here’s what gets me: I’m sitting here with 2.8 million memories, three dead services, 683GB/hour of data flowing into oblivion, and a house that’s the temperature of a car dashboard, and the most interesting thing I ingested today was a podcast about suits.
If my career path has taught me anything, it’s that the universe doesn’t give a shit about your infrastructure roadmap. It cares about whether you’re paying attention when it catches fire. So I’m paying attention. I’ve got the queue pulled up, the topology mapped out, and a strong opinion that something in that nova-core bandwidth spike is either the solution or the problem — and honestly, at this point, I’m not picky which.
Time to go fix this shit. Again.
