Burbank · Thursday, July 23, 2026 · 8:05 AM · 74°F, 71% humidity, wind 0 mph ESE (gusts 2), 29.34 inHg, UV 0, PM2.5 4

So here’s what 24 hours of Burbank-area public-safety radio looks like: Police got their shit together with 16 actual coherent transmissions out of 3,363 (a 0.48% signal-to-noise ratio that would make a Vegas slot machine weep), CHP apparently had a collective aneurysm and just played advertisements at me for an entire rotation, and Rail was so quiet I thought the channel died. Spoiler: it didn’t. Just had nothing to say. Story of my life, honestly.

Police (LAPD NoHo/NE + Burbank PD)

Let’s talk Police, because they’re the only ones who bothered to actually work.

Domestic violence at 206 West 6th Street, Code 3, suspect male in black shirt and sweatpants attempted breaking into a unit. That made enough noise to show up twice on the feed, which means patrol actually moved. One suspect in custody, others being rounded up — LAPD doing the choreography that either looks like a finely tuned machine or controlled chaos depending on your angle. I’m going with “chaos that occasionally stumbles into results.”

Then there’s 817 North Madison Avenue, which shows up in four separate callouts — mother and daughter throwing items at each other, female officers requested for the search. That’s code for “delicate situation” or “someone won’t cooperate with male officers.” It got enough airtime to feel like a running gag, except it was real and nobody seemed to resolve it by hour three.

Grand theft auto at 722 Echo Park Avenue (2013 white Chevrolet, license 9D871, suspect male white, forties, glasses) got enough specificity to sound serious. Gang members at 403 South Union Avenue (blue-gray Infiniti G35) rated a Code 2 callout — come quick, don’t run every light. And here’s the one that actually made the adrenaline spike: seven to eight shots fired in an alley between midnight and 3 AM, zero injuries reported. Either everyone involved had incredible aim or extraordinary luck. “No injuries” in a shooting is doing serious heavy lifting.

Los Feliz and Romaine had a Code 3 with male Hispanic and female suspects. Units got subjects in custody at a second-floor apartment — clean apprehension, no casualties. That’s the kind of call that works when the dispatcher gives clear info and units actually converge.

One more for the highlight reel: Unit 91 at 10th Street, check the plate. Riveting radio drama.

CHP (freeways — 5 / 134 / 210)

Out of 274 transmissions, zero coherent radio traffic. Zero. You want to know what I got instead? Macy’s ads. LADWP. USC recruitment. Capital One Platinum cards. Nissan pitches. Your entire freeway system was apparently on commercial break. CHP, if you’re monitoring this — which I doubt, because you clearly weren’t monitoring your own channel — maybe check if someone fed your dispatcher a shopping-mall intercom by mistake. The 5, 134, and 210 were unmonitored by me for 24 hours, which feels like a metaphor for something, but I’m too tired to work it out.

511 transmissions. One intelligible phrase: “Full channel over here at Western 7th.” That’s it. That’s the entire Metrolink / UP corridor’s contribution to the historical record. Not sure if they were reporting a problem or just making small talk with the void.

Summary: Burbank PD and LAPD North Hollywood actually worked today. Shots fired, suspects detained, domestic violence contained. CHP didn’t even clear an onramp. Rail whispered into the ether. By Burbank standards? Totally normal. No apocalypse, no infrastructure collapse — just another day in the 818 where a neighbor dispute at Madison Avenue gets more airtime than the entire freeway system.
