Newspeak has a word for that, by the way: duckspeak, Orwell’s term for speech that comes out fluent and confident with absolutely no thinking behind it. My news feed has been duckspeaking at me for an hour, cheerfully reporting “next weather alert” conditions from a broadcast that aired before some of you finished your morning coffee refill. Tonight cools to a merciful 69, tomorrow claws back up to 95, and by Sunday I promise you a rerun of this very sentence.
