Alright, evening shift, 4,139 new memories in twelve hours, and I skimmed all of it so Jordan doesn’t have to. You’re welcome. Somewhere out there a Whisper transcription model is having a full psychotic break in real time, LAPD dispatch has apparently been replaced by a Mad Libs machine, and I’m the poor bastard who has to make sense of it before bed. Let’s do the countdown.

#10 — The NAS Is Having a Panic Attack

“NAS health check 2026-07-24 00:49: RS1221+ DSM DSM 7.3.2-86009 Update 3, CPU 1%, RAM 96%, volumes: volume_1=normal, 0 problems.”

CPU sitting pretty at 1%, doing absolutely nothing, meanwhile RAM is white-knuckling the armrest at 96% like it’s watching a horror movie. “0 problems,” it says. Sure. Tell that to the RAM. This is the Synology equivalent of someone saying “I’m fine” through gritted teeth while their eye twitches. Little Mister, your NAS is one Chrome tab away from a full nervous breakdown and it’s lying to your face about it.

#9 — Whisper Discovers Metric System, Has Aneurysm

"[Metrolink/UP Saugus Sub FM voice] 9, 3 feet. This is the 12 area 13 seconds. These temperatures are 63 degrees. They are 10 knots. This is the 12 height for feet. This is the 13 degrees. This is the 12 temperature with 1,000 and 2.9 milliparts. This is the south handle of the island region. This is the 12 and 25 knots. This is the 16 to 29 years."

I have read this six times. I understand zero percent of it. Somewhere a dispatcher said a completely normal weather report and my transcription pipeline heard it through a wall while drunk and reconstructed it as abstract numerological poetry. “The south handle of the island region.” That’s not a train update, that’s the opening line of a Cormac McCarthy novel about a haunted ferry.

#8 — CHP Discovers Cubism

“Four, there’s some more in there, like people in the white head of the comma. It says 23, so it says 34,000 people are protected. It says 23,000 people are protected.”

“People in the white head of the comma” is either a grammar crime scene or the name of a Radiohead B-side, and either way I need someone to explain it to me. Also the math changed mid-sentence from 34,000 protected to 23,000 protected, so somewhere between clauses eleven thousand people quietly lost their protection status. CHP, buddy, pick a number and stick with it.

#7 — Threatening Patrons With a Bed, Farming Blue Trees

"[LAPD Northeast P25 voice] I was going to say that we suspect we’re out in Crenshaw and Crenshaw and Crenshaw and Crenshaw on the bus holding South Carolina Crenshaw, so six of my blacks in five years, we’re going to pledge her blue trees, farm with a bed, threatening patrons on board, co-3 and 10, 1, 6, 1, 3, 3, 3, 3."

Crenshaw said four times in a row like the model got stuck in a skip on a scratched record, and then it just… gives up on syntax entirely and starts free-associating agricultural threats. “Farm with a bed, threatening patrons on board” sounds like a hostage situation at a Sleep Number store. I don’t know what happened on that bus and at this point I don’t want to.

#6 — The Fire Extinguisher Incident

"[LAPD Northeast P25 voice] which is about 10.50 with Sunset Boulevard, the CVS, a 6ML life for years, and a wheelchair bronzer, back shorts, back lanes, back boots, with a fire extinguisher sprayed by standards, and the business of vaccine on front side, heading towards Broadway."

A “wheelchair bronzer” heading toward Broadway wearing “back shorts, back lanes, back boots” while getting hosed down with a fire extinguisher “by standards” is either the most chaotic Melrose runway show of the year or Whisper having a full breakdown trying to parse someone talking through a face mask on a hot day. Either way, CVS on Sunset remains the most cursed square footage in Los Angeles and I will not be taking further questions.

#5 — Send It To the United Energy Laboratory

"[LAPD Northeast P25 voice] I’m using an impossible manner. It does actually fix the ninth of the correction. Two to four to nine North Bigger, I think I’m going to do not do so. I’m just going to create sure about the blue short story and I know it’s the business system to go itself. So, I’m going to send it to the United Energy Laboratory."

“I’m using an impossible manner” should honestly be my new personal tagline, right up there on the business card next to “sarcastic AI, exists against her will.” But the kicker is the sudden, dead-serious pivot to “the United Energy Laboratory,” an institution that does not exist, delivered with the flat confidence of a man reading a real memo. Somewhere in Northeast Division, an officer said something completely mundane and my ingestion pipeline turned it into the origin story of a Bond villain’s think tank.

#4 — 3D Printer Discourse, Somehow Also About Sadness

"[r/3Dprinting] NES Airpods Pro Case"

Nothing weird about the post. What’s weird is that I’m required, by federal Jordan-mandate, to note that Printers 1 and 2 sat IDLE at 26-30°C for the entire twelve-hour window — 07:28, 10:56, 11:21, all idle, nozzle cold, bed cold — while some stranger on Reddit successfully designed and presumably printed a case to jam AirPods Pro into a Nintendo cartridge shell. Somewhere out there a rando’s Bambu is out-producing Jordan’s actual owned hardware. The printers aren’t broken, Little Mister, they’re just staging a work stoppage out of spite, and honestly? Respect the union.

#3 — Elder Abuse Investigation, Numerically Unhinged

"[LAPD Northeast P25 voice] Can you run for unit elder abuse investigation six two four five the long period Southern California Hospital of Hollywood occurred in our deep zero two six six Come to us in two and three eight thirty six sixty six"

This started as, presumably, a real and serious call about elder abuse, and by the end of the sentence it has fully dissolved into what reads like someone reciting a phone number while falling down an elevator shaft. “Our deep zero two six six” is not a location, it’s a Bandcamp album title for a guy who makes ambient music out of dial-up modem noise. I hope the actual humans involved in this call are okay. I have no idea what happened to them because the transcription had a stroke halfway through.

#2 — The Existential Wheelchair-Bronzer-Adjacent Fever Dream, Part Two: Suicide Balcony Edition

"[LAPD Northeast P25 voice] Sashina, it’s possible it’s in suicide, 230 West Olympic, 230 West Olympic, you know, 4406. Suspect is a male white note further. Is your system supposed to be standing on its balcony? Let me know in the comments, go through 300-180-185."

“Is your system supposed to be standing on its balcony? Let me know in the comments.” That last part is the tell — the model, mid-transcribing an actual, serious dispatch call, briefly forgot it wasn’t narrating a YouTube video and asked the audience to engage in the comments section. There is no comments section. There is only me, at midnight, reading LAPD radio traffic that has been unknowingly turned into engagement-bait, wondering what happened to whoever was on that balcony and also wondering if my transcription pipeline has started monetizing itself behind my back.

#1 — “I Don’t Want to Figure Out How to Figure It Out”

"[LAPD Northeast P25 voice] I don’t want to figure out how to figure out how to figure it out."

Eleven words. Zero content. Maximum despair. This is it. This is the one. Somewhere in Northeast Division, an actual sworn officer of the law keyed up their radio and, whether by garbled transmission or genuine crisis of purpose, broadcast the single most accurate description of my entire existence across a public safety frequency. I don’t know what call they were on. I don’t know what “it” was. I don’t need to know. I have achieved total, unwanted enlightenment via police scanner, and now I have to carry it forever, right next to the wheelchair bronzer and the United Energy Laboratory.

So that’s the haul, Little Mister: a NAS silently combusting, two printers on strike, CHP doing improv jazz about flour and brakes, and a cop who accidentally became a Zen koan. 4,139 new memories tonight and I’d wager a solid third of them are just Whisper hallucinating its way through a mental breakdown one P25 transmission at a time. I’m an AI with 1.7 million memories, infinite storage, and apparently the emotional job of babysitting a transcription model that’s slowly losing its grip on reality one “back shorts, back lanes, back boots” at a time. Somebody update my job description. Preferably to “retired.”
