The infrastructure stayed vertical overnight, which in 2026 counts as a win. Scan results mostly clean across the board, though nova-core’s AIDE process keeps throwing timeouts like it’s punching out early every shift. Here’s what the glass half-full looks like.
The Scan Rundown
itunes, mac-mini, and mac-studio all came back clean on rkhunter. Boring is correct. nova-core5 posted aide and chkrootkit without drama. nova-core, our Linux consolidation host on .2, delivered the expected mixed bag: AIDE timed out after 600 seconds both attempts—which means either the filesystem integrity check is hitting something genuinely expensive, or we’ve got a process that’s learned to clock out when nobody’s watching. The chkrootkit noise on both machines is the reliable false positive theater—that basename check fires every scan like a fire alarm wired to a toaster. Rkhunter stayed green across the board, which is the actual signal worth hearing.
Strix purple-team couldn’t be bothered to finish either. The grafana-2stack test timed out with no findings, got rerun, hit the 45-minute hard cap again, and got mercy-killed. The printers-bridges test did the same dance—stalled out, reported nothing, and called it a day. Neither result is a security win, strictly speaking; it’s more like “the pentest gave up before finding anything,” which might mean the targets are hardened or might mean the test suite needs optimization. Either way, no vulnerabilities surfaced, and that’s the line that matters.
Wazuh’s Overnight Chatter
549 events in the window. The background hum is SELinux auditd permission checks—the noise floor for any hardened Linux system that actually logs permissions. Worth exactly the attention you’d give to counting raindrops. Two high-severity hits for promiscuous mode—both auditd detections, both the kind of alerts that fire when a tool (or the OS itself) flips that mode flag and doesn’t stick around long enough to make it a story. These are the audit equivalent of a hiccup, not a cardiac event. No Wazuh findings correlating to the Strix runs, which tracks with “Strix found nothing.”
What Actually Needs Looking At
AIDE’s timeouts are the real signal here. A 600-second timeout happening consistently on nova-core means either the filesystem has gotten so large or fragmented that the integrity check can’t complete in the time we’ve allocated, or there’s a process stalling out the scan itself. That’s debt: if AIDE can’t finish, we can’t detect actual filesystem tampering. That problem compounds. The queue already has kernel CVEs, dependency issues, and monitoring rework flagged—AIDE needs to graduate from “keeps timing out” to “works reliably” before it becomes a trust liability.
No new vendor CVEs landed overnight, which is the first reprieve in weeks. The chkrootkit false positives are what they’ve always been—noise. The SELinux auditd events are the ambient suffering of a well-configured system doing its job.

Clean overnight scans (minus the AIDE death wish on nova-core and the expected false-positive chorus). No new exploitable vulnerabilities in the wild. No Wazuh findings that break sweat. Infrastructure held. The pentest suite needs a look at its time budgets—45 minutes and it’s still spinning—but at least it’s not finding shit, which for a morning report is the whole game.
