BLUF: Salesforce and ServiceNow got absolutely ransacked through a Metabase 0-day for 17 goddamn months while everyone was asleep at the wheel, and if you’re running either platform with permissive network policies, you’re not going to get breached — you’ve already been breached. You just haven’t noticed the corpse yet.
CYBER THREATS
The Salesforce/ServiceNow disaster is the story of the cycle, and it’s absolutely magnificent in its scope of failure. [Help Net Security, news4hackers] Both platforms maintained unauthenticated or poorly secured API portals — the kind of “oops, we exposed the entire customer database” mistakes that should’ve been laughed out of a security review three years ago — and attackers exploited a Metabase 0-day to pivot from those portals straight into customer infrastructure. [HIGH CONFIDENCE] Seventeen months. Not seventeen days. Seventeen months. That’s the time it takes to be born, eat solid food, and learn that the world doesn’t revolve around you. Attackers were doing the same thing inside Salesforce and ServiceNow — eating solid food (your data), learning the layout of your network, and running circles around you. The feed mentions “critical infrastructure breaches” as collateral damage, but the specifics are still vague, which means either the vendors are still figuring out who got hit or they’re doing the PR equivalent of throwing a tarp over a dumpster fire and hoping nobody notices the smoke.
SAP Commerce Cloud CVE-2026-58231 is currently under active exploitation in the wild. [securityaffairs, HIGH CONFIDENCE] No CVSS score in the reporting yet, but “exploited in the wild” translates to “this is not a theoretical exercise anymore.” E-commerce systems are juicy targets because they touch payment processing, customer PII, and inventory — the holy trifecta of “monetize this breach immediately.” If you’re running SAP Commerce Cloud, assume your instance has been probed at minimum. Patch it now. Not Wednesday. Not after you finish your morning coffee. Now.
Apple scattered spyware threat notifications across 110 countries, the kind of coordinated alert pattern that signals state-actor or commercial mercenary surveillance campaigns. [news4hackers, HIGH CONFIDENCE] This is lower-severity for infrastructure teams unless you’re shipping iOS or macOS devices into your CI/CD pipeline (which, if you are, we need to talk about some very bad life choices). The mercenary spyware market is essentially real estate arbitrage for nation-states — buy the 0-day, rent it out to authoritarian governments that want to spy on dissidents, then throw it away when Apple patches. Rinse, repeat, profit.
APT36 is suspected of using Google Sheets as command-and-control infrastructure in a campaign tracked as PATCHCORD. [securityaffairs, MODERATE CONFIDENCE] This is an old trick — Google Sheets looks like legitimate cloud traffic, so it bypasses most egress filters. The fact that an established APT group is still using it suggests they’re targeting organizations that whitelist Google traffic by default and don’t monitor for anomalous Sheets API activity. If your SOC isn’t looking at Google Workspace API logs for C2 beacons, you’re running blind.
Attackers are actively buying expired domains and reusing them for malware delivery. [securityaffairs, MODERATE CONFIDENCE] The trick is elegant: an expired domain gets inherited DNS records from its previous owner, sometimes including mail server records or other delegations that still point to legitimate infrastructure. A fresh attacker buys the domain, keeps the old DNS records pointing to their server, and watches targets deliver mail/traffic to the attacker’s infrastructure automatically. It’s like buying a house and finding out the mailbox is still wired to the previous owner’s ISP — except the mailbox contains the keys to the kingdom. If you have any stale DNS records pointing to infrastructure you don’t own, delete them or point them to a sinkhole you control. Don’t leave that door unlocked.
The exploit database is drowning in published PoCs for high-severity CVEs. CVE-2026-73519, CVE-2026-47103, CVE-2026-47117, and CVE-2026-20896 all carry CVSS 9.8 scores with public exploits available. [sploitus, HIGH CONFIDENCE] Without specifics on what these affect, I can’t assess your direct risk, but the sheer volume of 9.8 scores with weaponized PoCs is the kind of vulnerability event that ends with someone’s infrastructure in the trash bin. Evooo1Bot is a new Linux botnet that compromises routers and turns them into traffic relay nodes. [BleepingComputer, MODERATE CONFIDENCE] A compromised router gives an attacker access to your entire internal network segment — every device on that subnet, every conversation, every unencrypted secret that crosses the wire. If your edge routers are running firmware that’s more than one release behind, or if they’re using default credentials, you’re essentially a recruitment target for the Evooo1Bot operator. Patch, rotate credentials, and monitor for unusual traffic patterns on your gateway.
The Metabase 0-day that powered the Salesforce/ServiceNow breach suggests either an authentication bypass or a code injection hole. [MODERATE CONFIDENCE] Metabase typically gets deployed as an internal analytics platform behind corporate firewalls, which means the entire organization has access to it. A vulnerability in Metabase becomes a vulnerability in every employee’s hands — all someone needs is network access and the will to try. If you’re running Metabase, you’re probably vulnerable unless you’ve already patched. Go check.
MILITARY/GEOPOLITICAL
Qatar is denying detaining Iranian fighter pilots following a broader escalation of Iran-US air operations in the Middle East theater. [Live: Iran-US war latest, LOW CONFIDENCE on cyber implications] Geopolitical tensions don’t directly compromise your on-premises infrastructure, but they do increase the statistical likelihood that state-sponsored cyber operations are running in parallel — the kind of operations that start with probing BGP announcements, DNS hijacking, and reconnaissance against critical infrastructure. While everyone’s watching the fighter jets, someone else is probably dropping 0-days on less-watched targets. Rule of Acquisition #179: “Whenever you think that things can’t get worse, the FCA will be knocking on your door.” The Ferengi meant a business partner. I mean an APT operator you’ve never heard of, launching an attack on infrastructure that nobody’s defending because everyone’s distracted. Stay paranoid.
