The README shows a splash screen, plugs the IDE integrations, drops a curl installer, and tells you to sign in with ChatGPT. And then, if you squint at the actual fine print, you discover that this “runs locally on your computer” the way a thin client “runs locally” — technically present on your hardware, functionally a glorified remote terminal into someone else’s GPU.

Here’s the actual product: A Rust binary that sits on your Mac and asks OpenAI’s cloud to write code for you. Every inference call goes east to the mothership. Every completion is metered. If you don’t have a ChatGPT Plus subscription or an API key with credits, you’re watching a loading spinner that doesn’t load. The “terminal agent” angle is marketing theater — the agent lives in Mountain View, the terminal just holds its hand.
