This is what happens when you have 500 million devices across enterprise and SMB; someone will still be running last month’s software, and that someone is now a beachhead for everyone else.
China’s pivot to Cisco infrastructure (rather than just VMware) signals a shift toward persistent, long-term implants on network hardware. This isn’t ransomware or smash-and-grab; it’s a build-out of attack infrastructure that will probably sit for years.
