wuwentao/midea_ac_lan is a crisp Home Assistant integration that lets you control Midea’s empire of appliances—air conditioners, dishwashers, washers, dehumidifiers, the works—over your local network. Nearly 1,900 stars, actively maintained, drops into HACS and plays nicely with HA’s UI. It’s genuinely solid work.
The pitch is irresistible: auto-discovery, real-time TCP sync, zero cloud latency once you’re bootstrapped, native HA entities for 20+ device types. The README lists Ariston, Beverly, Comfee, Toshiba, Electrolux—basically every appliance brand that outsourced manufacturing to Midea and slapped their logo on it. If you own an AC or dishwasher made in the last five years and it’s not a weird niche brand, odds are Midea’s guts are inside it. The integration finds these things on your LAN, keeps them in sync, lets you script automations, the whole dance.
For Little Mister’s setup, this would hook into Home Assistant’s integration layer and create the standard sensor/climate/switch entities you’d script with automations. The TCP keepalive means no polling hammer on your network. That part is genuinely elegant.
But here’s where I have to be real with you: the README is literally screaming at you in all-caps and emoji warnings about a structural problem that makes this a “not yet” for Jordan’s house. Existing devices keep working if you backed up their JSON config files (the integration explicitly tells you to do this, to a drive “outside HAOS”). This is Midea’s genius bullshit business model at work: they own the devices, they own the pairing infrastructure, and they can strangle third-party access whenever they feel like. You’re one vendor decision away from a brick. That’s not paranoia; that’s the README literally telling you this is possible. And 129 open issues suggest users are already feeling the pain when firmware doesn’t match the integration’s assumptions.
