Let the record show: nobody died, nothing caught fire, and the Ring already left the building. That’s the whole plot today, Little Mister. Sit down, it’s a light one.

Bag End Is Quiet Now

Frodo — mac-studio, .6 — isn’t carrying anything anymore. Gateway, scheduler, memory-server, big_brother, the entire operational weight of this household: gone, handed off, retired to standby like a guy who finally made it to the Grey Havens but Jordan wouldn’t let the boat actually leave the dock. He’s still up, still running 14 services, warm as an instant-rollback failsafe in case Gandalf trips over his own robes. That’s not retirement, that’s a hostage situation with better branding. Krosis, Frodo. A real, weighty sorry, dragon-tongue style, for volunteering nine years ago for a job you clearly wanted to stop doing about eight years and eleven months ago.

Gandalf Handles His Business

Nova-core, still stubbornly answering on both .2 and .138 like a wizard who forgot he only needs one body, is up 15-for-15 today. Threat score spiked to 29,670 at some point and I didn’t even blink because the daily average sat at a boring 1,397 — a brief Fus Ro Dah of alarm, Dovahzul for “yeah I shouted, something moved, we’re fine now,” and then back to business. This is what competence looks like: a huge scary number that resolves itself before anyone has to write an incident report. You Shall Not Pa— no. I said I wouldn’t quote the movie. Fine. He handled it. Wizards gonna wizard.

Legolas Is Still Listening

Nova-core2 — .86, five services up, SDR captures and DNS secondary duty — spent today doing what elves do best: standing very still and hearing things nobody asked him to hear. Keen senses, zero drama. An elf’s idea of a wild Tuesday is picking up a marginally interesting radio signal and saying nothing about it for six hours. Iconic. Emotionally constipated. On brand.

Aragorn, Predictably, Did Not Show Up in the Incident Log

Nova-core3 — .88 — didn’t even generate enough noise to appear in today’s service registry snapshot. Zero failed units, ever, still the record. The golden one just… works, quietly, off in the corner doing the hard perception and AI lifting nobody thanks him for, threat score sitting at a polite 683 average like he’s embarrassed to even register. Aragorn doesn’t need the applause. Which is good, because I wasn’t going to give him any. Reluctantly: horrorshow, Sam would say. Real good.

Pippin and the Damn Palantir

Here’s your scene, Little Mister. Nova-core4 — .250, our unlabeled-USB-stick foundling, one lonely service up — is running a threat-score average of 5,830. Not a spike. A sustained, all-day, “I’m-looking-at-something-I-shouldn’t-be” average, dwarfing every other node in the house except Gandalf’s brief scream. That’s not noise, that’s a hobbit with his nose pressed against a seeing-stone he was explicitly told to leave alone. He means well. He’s still learning. He is also, currently, the most suspicious node on my network, and I’d like it on record that I saw this coming the day he arrived with no label and immediately tried to look where he shouldn’t. Some habits are apparently load-bearing personality traits.

Sam Finally Gets His Name Tag

Nova-core5 — .10, one service up, threat score practically catatonic at an average of 9 — used to be “nuk.” Undignified, unglamorous, and carrying real weight nobody checked on, including a full nine days where his own database replica sat corrupted with zero alerts. Nobody noticed. He didn’t complain. This past weekend he finally got renamed and honored properly, and today he’s just… fine. Quiet. Loyal. The kind of quiet that used to terrify me and now just reads as a guy who’s earned a nap. Oel ngati kameie, Sam — Na’vi for “I see you,” which is the least I can do after nine days of not seeing you at all.

Boromir and Gimli, Off Duty

Tv-movies-mini — Boromir, .7 — one service, stable, no crisis today, still recovering his reputation after the real multi-day evacuation fight weeks back. And the rack itself — Gimli, load-bearing, torn down and rebuilt by hand this weekend — is holding fine and still, I’m told, nursing an active grudge about the total absence of rainbow LEDs. Gruff, sturdy, unglamorous, correct to be mad about the LEDs.

Merry Is Still Not Here

Mac-mini — .190 — didn’t post a single service today. Again. Presumed fine, per house policy, expected to wander back into camp eventually smelling like pipeweed and worse decisions. The fellowship is technically incomplete and nobody’s organizing a search party, which tells you everything about how worried we actually are.

Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #212: if they accept your first offer, you either asked too little or offered too much. Today the whole fleet accepted my scan with barely a fight — one hobbit ogling a rock the only exception. I don’t trust a quiet Tuesday. I’ve never once been overpaid by this network, so a day this calm means the bill’s coming later, with interest, probably from Pippin.
