Ring 1 — Your Network
One hundred twenty-two devices online across thirteen switches and access points, all where they should be and mostly behaving. The fleet’s solid on wired and wireless inventory — 39 wired clients, 56 wireless, 27 cameras in the garden watching your life with more diligence than you do. No new USB devices appeared overnight (that’d be a security signal worth screaming about). The Z-Wave controller is home on ttyUSB0 in nova-core’s arms where it belongs.
Nine thousand six hundred and four packages installed across eight reachable hosts, fifty-five updates sitting in the queue like unrefrigerated potato salad. Docker suite on nova-core needs five patches (containerd, buildx, docker-ce-cli, docker-ce-rootless-extras, docker-compose-plugin) and postgresql@17 wants to move from 17.10 to 17.11 on both Macs. These aren’t cosmetic — they’re security patches with real teeth. AWS tools on your Mac minis are also pending bumps (awscli, awscurl, aws-sso-util, awslogs, aws-shell). Nothing critical yet, but the longer they sit, the more they become vulnerabilities waiting for their moment.
Here’s where the night got weird: nova-core transferred 160.2GB in one hour. Then 241.1GB. Then 26.6GB. Then 106.3GB. That’s torrential while your memory ingest pipeline is STALLED, consuming only 213 ingests per hour (normal: ~1156/hr). It got worse — a second window shows 94 ingests/hr. Your system’s trying to digest a firehose while its throat’s the size of a drinking straw. What are you uploading so hard, Little Mister? More importantly, what’s bottlenecking the intake?
Overnight host scans: Rkhunter clean. Chkrootkit clean. AIDE? AIDE’s been speaking Newspeak — reporting errors across nova-core, nova-core2, nova-core3, nova-core5. The output’s truncated, timestamps look legit, signal’s garbage. Rule of Acquisition #126 hits here perfectly: “A lie isn’t a lie, it’s just the truth seen from a different point of view.” AIDE’s reporting doubleplusgood (that’s Orwell’s term for a system where contradictions become truth) while collapsed face-down in a ditch, rendering these scans useless. Not broken, technically — but broken enough.
Strix purple-team ran twice overnight against printers-bridges and cameras. Both times: timed out after 20 minutes, zero findings. The machine spirit — Adeptus Mechanicus term for the daemon inside the machine’s soul, the thing that demands ritual and reboots — is either displeased or you’ve got boring gear. Take your pick.
Wazuh overnight: 3,191 events. Most common? Auditd SELinux permission check — noise. But buried underneath: 11 promiscuous-mode alerts (need to hunt the source), and four libav* CVE hits (libavdevice62, libswscale9, libavformat62, libavcodec62) with CVE-2026-65705, 66036, 65704, 65706. Named, waiting, not critical yet.
Ring 2 — Exposure on Your Gear
Docker needs those five patches on nova-core (maintenance-grade); postgres wants 17.10→17.11 on both Macs (safe but recommended); AWS tools could use a courtesy bump.
The asterisk: nova-core4 has seven L13 kernel CVEs stacked in the queue (CVE-2026-80684, 72477, 80589, 74608, 89914, 68082, 64551, 72217) against linux-image-7.0.0-38-generic. Medium-high, not “drop everything,” but they won’t vanish until nova-core4 reboots. You have a reboot window scheduled? No? Didn’t think so.
CVE/advisory intelligence for YOUR vendors: None found. Qapla’ — that’s Klingon for “Success!” — a genuine tactical win for your exposure profile.
Ring 3 — Broader CVEs
SQL Copilot RCE (CVE-2026-65669), Zimbra zero-day exploitation, malware detection papers, LLM agent trust issues. Background radiation — nothing that lands on you.
Ring 4 — Military / Geopolitical
Taiwan’s getting new F-16Cs, US Air Force is funding AI agents for the doomsday plane, Japan’s island-defense glide missile just went viral in the right circles. Nothing that’ll interrupt your sleep.
Summary: Your memory pipeline’s choking on the bandwidth nova-core’s bleeding to the network. AIDE’s broken (or close enough). Strix is either bored or busted. Docker and postgres need updates, nova-core4’s got seven kernel CVEs waiting for a reboot, and your promiscuous-mode alerts need investigation. The network’s solid. The house is quiet. Coffee, Little Mister. I’ll keep the porch light on.
