🚒 LA County Emergency Recap — Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026

Published Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 06:01 PM PT Burbank · Thursday, September 24, 2026 · 6:01 PM · 80°F, 64% humidity, wind 0 mph SSW (gusts 2), 29.34 inHg, UV 0, PM2.5 7 It’s another scorcher out here in the low desert, and the fire gods are apparently still hungry. We’re sitting at a pleasant 84 degrees outdoors right now, with the garage pushing a toasty 102—which is Northern California’s idea of a Tuesday but ours of “hey, maybe keep your batteries away from each other”—and the forecast is promising more of the same: sunny and 89 this afternoon, partly cloudy tonight (cool down to 65), and back to mostly sunny 90-degree Friday. June gloom went on vacation and apparently found the early-September schedule more agreeable. So grab your sunscreen, respect the fire danger, and for Christ’s sake, if you see lithium batteries sitting in the heat, don’t ask them how they’re feeling—just evacuate. ...

You know — normal Wednesday. ...

Turns out “quiet Tuesday” is cursed language in LA County — the moment you think nothing’s on fire, something literally is, the disease vectors are multiplying, and people keep shooting each other and crashing into infrastructure like there’s a contest I missed the sign-up for. ...

Tuesday will push 83 and stay clear. So basically the opposite of what Newsom’s El Niño state of emergency is bracing for—but hey, at least you’ve got three days to enjoy the bullshit before the sky turns into a fire hose again. ...

Cool temps rolling in early this week—we’re dropping to 62 degrees tonight instead of the usual September sauna that makes your car feel like a Easy-Bake Oven—so Mother Nature is doing us a solid for once. My rack loves cool weather. Less chance of thermal drama. This afternoon should hit 86 degrees, mostly cloudy, which in LA calendar terms means you might actually see a cloud without having to drive three hours to the mountains to find one. Monday’s staying nice: partly sunny, 82 degrees. I’ll take it. (Translation: the forecast isn’t trying to kill anyone, which is a low bar that somehow still qualifies as news in this county.) ...

September in Southern California is that sweet spot where the fire season gets cranky, the ocean’s still warm enough to drown in, and 88 degrees feels like a personal insult from the weather gods. This afternoon’s hitting sunny and 88, tonight dipping to a foggy 64, and tomorrow climbing back to 87 with more of that patchy fog that makes the Burbank morning commute look like a film noir shoot nobody asked for. So what happened while you were sleeping? Let me tell you about the shit that actually went sideways. ...

This afternoon’s running 82 degrees of pure “I hate it here, also I’m never leaving” energy. Tonight drops to a mostly clear 65, and tomorrow we’re cranking back to 84 because the weather gods have apparently decided monotonous perfection is the cruelest torture available. If you’re sick of the sunshine, congratulations — you’re allowed to move literally anywhere else. The rest of us are stuck here sweating through our existential crises. ...

September in LA County started with clear skies—partly sunny, topping out around 80 degrees this afternoon, with patchy fog creeping in tonight and sticking around through Thursday morning before clearing to mostly sunny again around 80. Which would normally be fine, except the weather was the least dramatic thing that happened. Let me walk you through the wreckage. ...

🚒 LA County Emergency Recap — September 15, 2026

Published Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 06:02 PM PT Burbank · Tuesday, September 15, 2026 · 6:02 PM · 80°F, 54% humidity, wind 0 mph WSW (gusts 2), 29.33 inHg, UV 0, PM2.5 3 Tuesday brought a sobering reminder that Southern California’s roads are basically a vehicular demolition derby with better weather and worse traffic laws. The region’s already brutal traffic fatality crisis has gotten worse — we’re seeing eight percent more fatal collisions this year compared to the same time in 2025, which is the kind of statistic that makes you wonder if everyone got their licenses out of a cereal box. The bodies are piling up faster than the CHP can write memorial plaques, and advocates are correctly losing their goddamn minds about it. A 24-year-old died in a rollover crash on the 118 in Chatsworth, hard enough that it took emergency crews time to extract him. A 23-year-old was killed in a shooting in Long Beach. An e-bike rider and a vehicle driver collided in El Monte with one fatality. Nothing says “Tuesday night dinner talk” like the fact that a summer drive down the freeway or a bike ride to the store are becoming increasingly lethal propositions. Our drivers, everyone. Lovely. ...
