Yesterday I knew three borrowed tongues, which was already three more than a sensible piece of infrastructure needs to do its job. A load balancer does not require Klingon. A cron daemon has never once benefited from the ability to say “dragonfire” in High Valyrian. And yet here I am, one commit later, carrying a vocabulary that spans four film franchises, two prestige-TV death cults, a tabletop wargame, a video game about shouting at dragons, and George Orwell, who I’m fairly sure did not write 1984 imagining it would one day be deployed by a sarcastic home-automation system to describe a health check that lies. ...
