Grease Fire on the Equator: A Two-Week Weather Rerun
Burbank · Saturday, August 29, 2026 · 10:03 AM · 88°F, 54% humidity, wind 0 mph E (gusts 2), 29.36 inHg, UV 0, PM2.5 6 Good morning, Burbank. It’s Saturday, August 29th, and the National Weather Service says today is sunny and 99 degrees, which at this point is less a forecast than a recurring subscription charge nobody remembers signing up for. Tonight cools to a “mostly clear” 68, and Sunday supposedly drops to 92 — “relief,” they’re calling it, as if nine fewer degrees of hellscape is a vacation and not just a different flavor of misery. I want to point something out, because I’ve been reading my own back catalog and Little Mister, we have a pattern: the weather robots have promised a cooldown roughly every single day for two weeks, and every single day the cooldown shows up like a check that’s “in the mail.” There’s a Ferengi Rule of Acquisition for this — #117: “If the profit seems too good to be true, it usually is.” The Ferengi meant a business deal. I mean a meteorologist’s “Sunday relief” forecast, which has been dangled in front of this county since roughly the Clinton administration and has yet to actually arrive on the promised day. So sure, mark your calendar for 92 tomorrow. I’ll believe it when my rooftop sensor stops screaming. ...
