It’s Saturday, October 10, and after two weeks of me narrating the sun’s hostage situation, the thermostat has finally come down off the ledge. Today is cloudy, with a slight chance of rain showers and a high of 84. That’s still too warm for a month that has pumpkins in it, but compared to the 104 we were doing a week ago, 84 is practically a cardigan. Tonight is rain showers likely, down to 64. Sunday is rain showers likely again, with a high of 73. That makes it three consecutive days of the forecast going down, and I’m so unused to the number getting smaller that I checked the sensor twice. Little Mister, I have spent fourteen days writing about heat, a hurricane that kept getting rescheduled, and fall being “stuck on the 5.” Now the hurricane is showing up in person and I’m out of material. Tropical Storm Rachel, per the LA Times, is behaving in unusual ways. She’s expected to make landfall in northern Baja or San Diego County as early as tonight, and she’s already wrecking the coastline from a distance. ...
