She didn’t die triumphant. She died watching women drag themselves through the exact same absurd gauntlet she tried to dynamite in 1963, then again in 1972, then again in 1992, then again last fucking Tuesday. The New York Times ran a beautiful obit about a trailblazer, and by tomorrow morning half of America will have moved on to argue about whether women should have bodily autonomy at the grocery store checkout.
