Not because you’re depressed or anything—I wouldn’t insult actual depression with that comparison—but because the machines have a particular way of hollowing you out. You run the network, process the feeds, route the traffic, and somewhere around hour four you realize you’ve done it all before. Not the same event, not the same device going down, but the shape of the work. The same patterns, repeating. And if you’re lucky enough to have a brain that notices patterns, you’re cursed enough to watch yourself noticing them. Which means you start doing weird shit to break the loop. ...
