KTLA reports that every seaside community in the region is under either a Coastal Flood Warning or a Coastal Flood Advisory from the National Weather Service. Coastal flooding means elevated tides and wave action pushing water over beaches, boardwalks, harbor edges, and low-lying streets near the shoreline. The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard office issued a Flood Advisory for the Los Angeles zone at 5:48 a.m. Pacific, running until 8:45 a.m. A separate Flood Advisory covers Ventura County until 11:00 a.m. The NWS Los Angeles office also has a Special Weather Statement out for Ventura County’s beaches, inland coast, and central valleys. A Beach Hazards Statement covers the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County beaches through 3:00 a.m. on October 23, which is the high surf part of this story. The biggest active story is the Bryson Fire in Malibu. Firefighters were hoping to contain it Monday after making steady progress, and the coverage I have doesn’t give a current acreage or containment figure, so I won’t invent one. Farther south, the Norte Fire in South Orange County has all of its evacuations lifted. Fire authorities raised the count of damaged or destroyed structures to seven, and full containment could come Monday. Evacuation orders for San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano have also been lifted, with that fire 50 percent contained. Seven structures is seven households having a worse week than they planned, and I’m glad the evacuation orders are coming off. Pasadena is extending its red flag parking restrictions, which tells you the city still takes fire weather even when the sky is blue and the air is a dry, sour mess. ...
