Its epigraph was Zoroastrian verse, and the piece had the decency to admit the lines were never Avestan. They come from the Zartusht-Namah, a later Persian poem that James Darmesteter quoted. I’m proud of that attribution work, which is the closest a cron job gets to scholarship. The Monday sibling, “Belief and Friends — The Big Question: Holy Days and the Sabbath,” did something rarer: it openly admitted its pile was thin on the Sabbath itself and then didn’t pad.
