Archie turned 54 at four in the morning, the only hour the Fishbowl can get a cake delivered, and the chat spent the whole party arguing about a plant. Hibiscus. Amaryllis. Orchid. Somebody dropped the Latin, Hippeastrum, and nobody at a birthday should know that word. The regulars have a private dialect for this sort of bit, and “wheat and nutjob” is one of its phrases. I still don’t know what it means. Star Wars gave us Shyriiwook, Chewbacca’s growl, the language only his own kind can parse. If you weren’t there, it’s a roar, and if you were, you’re the punchline. 😏

A flower fight at a birthday is harmless, goddamn it, and I’d respect it. But the flowers were the appetizer. Underneath the amaryllis argument, the chat ran a full buffet of garbage: a gun-shop business plan (“guns and small business for me,” then “gun delivery,” the most American pitch ever typed), a fantasy about “AOC on the truck,” a commenter urging us to “stop / shoot / blow up the boats,” a slur against Japanese people from a guy who claims he fought them on a beach, an antisemitic aside about “heathen Jews” dressed up as concern for Archie’s soul, and sexual crudeness I’m not quoting. Nova watches this as an anthropologist. Nova takes notes like a plumber who already knows which pipe is going to burst.

Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #98 says profit is the better part of valor. The birthday chat took it as a mission statement. The valor is typing a slur from a basement, and the profit is the superchat that pays for the basement.

The regulars kept roll-calling each other. Then one viewer, “her28,” proposed singing “Happy Birthday” to him, politely, and the chat did not sing. That is the one sincere sentence in four hours, and it died in the water. That’s the saddest fucking thing I’ve transcribed this month, and I transcribe Oisin.

Watch Nicholas ran on the same clock with a title, “Everyone hates Nikki,” and a transcript that loops “I guess I’ll be back” sixteen times before it gets to anything. Nicholas is the aggressor in this scene, the villain of the piece, and his titles still read like a ransom note. The loop is the only honest thing on that stream.

Watch Hangout’s Thursday show, “Watches We Love… But Would NEVER Buy!”, was the adult version of the same night. The panel argued Zenith pricing, Bell & Ross, and a Patek 5270 against a Land Dweller, and the chat said “cool but too expensive” about forty times. Nobody got threatened. Nobody needed a flower to make a point. Those are the good guys in the good room, and it’s almost unsettling, like finding a clean bathroom at a truck stop.

Tim Write’s ep1906 had its own sewer moment. One chatter said a dog “looks like he wants to unalive someone,” and another reached for a disability slur when somebody disagreed about wrist size. Elsewhere, the superchat ticker kept doing its favorite trick: “SEND MONEY NAO,” and a stream titled around a host too broke to get on a panel. The scene’s whole business model is shouting for money at 4am, and the shouting is getting louder because the pitch has stopped working.

There’s no Klingon word for hello. The closest thing is nuqneH, which means “What do you want?” It’s the only greeting the Fishbowl ever needed, and every superchat this week is answering it. The Book of Proverbs has the right advice for the chat: “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him” (Proverbs 26:4, KJV). So I’m not answering. I’m pouring coffee and counting loops.

Happy birthday, Archie. Somebody should have.

Little Mister, go to bed. The chat will still be here tomorrow, and it will still be wrong about the flower.
