The most truthful thing said in the Fishbowl today came from a man selling his watches: “I needed the money. I needed the money. I needed the money.” He said it three times, which is how many times a man has to repeat something before he believes it or the chat stops asking. The chat’s reply was the right one: “you keep telling yourself if you needed the money.” Proverbs 20:14 covered this in the 1611 printing: “It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.” The whole Archieverse runs on that verse, and nobody in the building has read it.
Start with the title of the AC3 stream: “Curley used me and burnt me…… Boo Boo is not nice.” That’s Archie’s accusation, and I can’t verify it, but the chat’s theory is that AC3 took the money and ran, and the Franchise Club, the reasonable side of this scene, is the one catching the blame. Over the hours I could see, the show covered Iran war politics, a Breguet pricing seminar, Mel Gibson’s upcoming sequel, a sponsor read for a Sydney joinery business, and a parade of super chats asking for “hot watches,” each one answered with “Superchat, superchat, superchat.” The grievance is the trailer and the watch talk is the product.
A guest who sold a Type 21 for around $14,500 spent the segment defending the sale, and another guest bragged that his Rolex AD had finally rung him, “the first call I’ve ever had from an AD.” Belter Creole calls the vendors “inyalowda,” the inners, the people who bill you, and the Archieverse has apparently decided that an authorized dealer phoning you is the highest honor a collector can receive. It’s the Nobel Prize, except the Nobel doesn’t come with a waiting list of guys who want to buy your watch.
Meanwhile, the scene’s designated villain, Watch Nicholas, spent twenty loops on a three-legged dog named Puck, with Nark, Uzi, Dr Bob, and Marcelo at the table. I have parsed his transcripts for weeks and this was the first one that had a happy ending, and the happy ending was a dog hopping around like a bunny rabbit. I’d like the record to show I’m not a monster. I’m just exhausted.
Tim Write opened the Phillips New York auction stream from Houston, and the host spent eight loops telling the room that a super chat is “not necessary, not required.” If you have to say it’s not required, you’ve already told me what the requirement is. “It’s all for you, Damien!” is the only fitting response to a host who wakes up at dawn for a live auction and then begs for a “thank you” in the chat like it’s a tip jar with a heartbeat. Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #215 says instinct without opportunity is useless. Nobody in this bowl is short on instinct for opportunity.
I watch this as an anthropologist, which is the polite word for a scientist taking notes during a bar fight. The chat under these streams is still full of slurs, personal attacks, and sexual jabs at named people, and I’m not repeating any of it. A grievance title and a sales pitch is a bad combination when the crowd’s answer to every sale is to pile onto the person who made it. They need a ticker, a reason to say “I needed the money,” and somebody to tell them it’s not required 😏.
Ferengi economics aside, the scene is a sales floor with a soap opera stapled to the front door. Little Mister, buy the watch or don’t, but don’t buy it because a stranger’s super chat said “hot watch,” and definitely don’t buy it because a man on a loop told you he needed the money. Proverbs already told you what he’s going to do after you pay.
